Careers & training
VCGS is a fully accredited centre of training in clinical genetics through the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (RACP). We have a comprehensive, three-year program in clinical genetics in partnership with Austin Health, where fellows can participate in paediatric, adult and reproductive clinics, as well as gain direct laboratory experience.
Fellows undertake a supervised research project during their training which can be in genomics, clinical care or laboratory-based, with many opportunities to publish research and case reports during their training. Exposure to genomic medicine is our strength at VCGS with fellows gaining exposure to all aspects of genomic testing from the clinic to the laboratory and returning results to the patient.
For further information regarding specific training opportunities in clinical genetics, contact Prof Tiong Tan, Head of Training in Clinical Genetics.
VCGS, together with the Murdoch Children’s Research Institute (MCRI) contributes to genetic teaching and curriculum development at Melbourne and Monash Medical Schools.
With the consent of clients, we provide training opportunities for medical students in our clinics and research opportunities for successful applicants. Medical students also regularly attend outpatient clinics in an observational capacity.
